The term ‘mufti’ literally means the giver of fatwas (Islamic legal ruling). Firstly, the Office of the Mufti of Pahang is responsible for handling the operational duties related to the issuance of fatwa. We collates necessary references and information to be distributed to the Fatwa Committee, especially those on emerging issues. The development of science and technology and the realities of life in a dynamic society like Pahang has raised new questions which require solutions through fatwa. Secondly, we determine and confirm the direction of Qiblah (direction towards the Kaaba), observation of new moon, schedule of prayer times calendar and to conduct research and education on astronomy
